Abstract
Numerous people have lost their lives due to road accidents and some of these deaths could have been prevented if the rescue team had managed to notify earlier. The research has made some research in the automotive industry especially electric vehicles with includes ADAS system, but this may be difficult for people to afford this kind of car because of the high price and maintenance fee of the car. Regardless, with the widespread of using smartphones and the internet in this era, researchers started to use smartphones for vehicle collision detection. However, there is still a lack of dedicated car crash detection features on the most smartphones models, limited accessibility of the technology worldwide and problem with the performance of the smartphone itself. The accuracy of the smartphone that is available in the market can be affected by the false detection of the smartphone when vehicle is sudden stop or phone dropping. This project uses the smartphone to perform collision detection units with the help of the mobile application developed in Android Studio. The accelerometer in the phone is used to detect the collision by observing the changes of acceleration while GPS is used to detect the location where the collision happened. Then, Firebase will act as a real-time database used to store and obtain information of the collision. After that, SMS messaging is used to inform the emergency contact. The result of this project seems to be successful which can remove 90% of false positives when testing the application with 10 trials.
