Abstract
The reliability of a power system is important in ensuring stability and assurance in futureproofing. There have been multiple projects that have conducted
reliability analysis using various methods. This project utilizes non-sequential Monte Carlo Simulation and attempts to numerically analyse the non-sequential Monte Carlo simulation. This project was completed in MATLAB using the MATPOWER 7.1 package, to conduct the simulation on IEEE-Reliability Test System network model. From the results, a limit on the number of components in failure state has to be implemented, as the number of component failures scale nonlinearly to the percentage of failure in the simulations. A minimum of 1000 simulations is recommended for simulations, to ensure the simulation results converge. However, the overall simulation result is inaccurate, many improvements are needed to utilize this code for reliability analysis. Some suggestions to improve the code include the addition of sensitivity analysis, as well as the capacity outage probability calculations.
