Abstract
Computers cannot as easily as human use contextual information and apply interaction and adaptation to the situation. However, with the help of such information, computer systems and applications could be more user-friendly, flexible, and adaptable to its surroundings. With the advent of decreasing prices of mobile devices, the existences of context-aware applications are constantly increasing. An intelligent tour guide that uses context data of its surroundings is an example of context-aware applications. Developed using J2ME, the USM Mobile Guide, an intelligent tour guide provides information to the visitors of USM based on the knowledge of the position and orientation of the user. During the development process of USM Mobile Guide, problems and difficulties with programming such as error exception, datagram network connection and canvas manipulation have surfaced but was overcame in time. Although lacking coverage and functions, the project can be considered as a small leap in the context-aware field.
