Shoot tips (0.5 - 1.0 ern) of Anubia nana were cultured in l/2MS media containing different combinations of NAA dan BA to produce multiple shoots. Anubia nnna in 1/2MS medium containing 4 mg/L BA without NAA produced the maximum number of shoots per explant. Shoots produced per explant in 1 /2MS was twice more than in MS but the shoots were smaller in size. Shoot tips cultered in solid medium produced more multiple shoots than in liquid medium. Multiple shoot production of other Anubia species such as Anubia congensis and Anubia lanceolata was also successfully done on l/2MS + 3.0 mg/L BA. This showed that different species of Anubia can also be propagated using this medium. Rooting of A nubia nana was easy in l/2MS. medium without NAA or BA. Shoot tips of Anubia nana obtained from the tissue culture method above were encapsulated in alginate to produce individual beads. These beads with the explant could be stored at 23°C for two months with a minimum of 90% viability. Amongst the sodium alginate tested. Sodium alginate at 2.5% was found to give the best r~sults, regenerating shoots and roots within a week. The reaction time between sodium alginate and calcium of 30 minutes produced beads with the best texture compared to 10 and 60 .-minutes. Encapsulated shoot tips regenerated complete plantlets of normal size on l/2MS solid medium.en_US
