Abstract
This study aims to examine the influence of the professional learning
community as a moderator on the relationship between Change Facilitator Styles of
the school principal and teacher teaching commitment in Sarawak. This study uses a
combined method in the sequence QUAN-Qual. Data for the quantitative research
were collected using the Change Facilitator Style Questionnaire (CFSQ), Professional
Learning Communities Assessment-Revised (PLCA-R) questionnaire and the
teachers’ teaching commitment. A total of 644 teachers were randomly selected from
67 regular daily national secondary schools in the state of Sarawak as the sample for
the quantitative study. The quantitative data has been analyzed at the organizational
level. Meanwhile, the qualitative data collection was conducted through a semistructured
interview with three principals who adopted the change facilitator style
initiator, manager and responder as well as twelve teachers. The findings show that
principals in Sarawak practice three types of Change Facilitator Styles namely
Initiator (2 people), Manager (48 people) and Responder (17 people). The findings
also show that the level of practice of the professional learning community and the
level of commitment of teacher teaching in Sarawak are high. In addition, the
hypothesis testing results show that there is a significant influence of Change
Facilitator Styles on professional learning community practice and teacher teaching
commitment level. In addition, the professional learning community has also shown
significant impact on the level of teachers’ teaching commitment.
