| dc.description.abstract | This study examines the procedures on the processes of golf news translation. They include linguistic operations such as information deletions, lexical substitutions and syntactic editing rules. These procedures are important components for the newspaper in order to enable it achieve its editing philosophy: cutting, clarifying, maximizing news value and the language standardization which are essential fundamentals for producing good translation outputs. This study also answers the questions of the research such as the effect of translation on meaning which produces the translation inaccuracies and the strategies used by the translator that are always controlled by the 'commissioner. With the combination of theories : the Editing Procedure of Bell (1991 ), the Skopos Theory of Vermeer (1984), the Evaluation Model of Reiss (1968, 1971 a,b, 1973) , the Componential Analysis of Jackson (1988}, the Evaluation of .. Translation Effect of Newmark (1981, 1988, 1991 }, the PrinCiple of News Writing with 5W1 H Methodology of ltule and Anderson (1997), the Translation Principle of Retaining the Original Meaning of Nida (1969) and the Translation Principle of Retaining the Original Structures of Tytler (1791), this study is able to handle the informative text such as the news translation. Some of the findings of the study are: 1. the standard linguistic operations such as information deletions, lexical substitutions and syntactic editing rules seems to have been applied well by the translator; 2. the effect of translation outputs comprises undertranslation, overtranslation, ambiguous translation and mistranslation. However the effect seems to be under control and it does not seems to effect the overall translation outputs in general; 3. the translators use a combination of strategies such as the strategy of retaining the original meaning, the strategy of retaining the original structures and the strategy of accommodating the target readers' perspectives. However, the strategy to accommodate to the target readers' perspectives seems to be the main strategy. | en_US |
