Abstract
Business environment presently is becoming more competitive in nature and
the intelligence about the business environment in general and competitors in
particular, has become more valuable. Jaworski and Wee (1993) have
empirically demonstrated that as businesses increased their level of
intelligence, there is a subsequent increase in quality of strategic plan, market
knowledge and product quality. The increase in these factors is in turn
reflected in increased business performance. The objective of this study is to
investigate to what extent is the local manufacturing enterprises are using
business intelligence sources and its influence towards performance. The
study also investigates the relationship of business intelligence with business
practice (e.g., customer relationship management, team usages, strategic
alliances and outsourcing) and performance as an outcome. This study is built
from the model that was created by Schneider (2002), applying similar
theoretical development to another research question: "how does business
intelligence and new-form organization link for enhancing value creation
within the stakeholder framework". Four broadly hypothesized relationships
were tested in a field study with a sample of 127 decision makers from the
various local manufacturing enterprises based in Penang, Kedah and Pedis.
The results of the regression analyses revealed that there is a relationship
between business practice, usage of business intelligence sources and
performance. The result also proves that there is a relationship in the
stakeholder's theory among the various stakeholders involved towards
business practice, usage of business intelligence sources and performance.
The findings of this study will be useful for the local manufacturing
enterprises; in particularly to the decision makers on the role of business
intelligence usage of its sources to enhance the performance of their
enterprise.
