- PublicationDeveloping An Islamic Framework Of Public Relations Practice For Islamic Banks In Bangladesh(2022-08)This research tries to understand how the Islamic banks of Bangladesh practice public relations following Islamic principles. It tries to analyse their public relations strategies, functions and activities. It also attempts to analyse their Islamic corporate social responsibility activities as a part of public relations. As the previous studies on this issue were mainly conceptual and the researcher did not find any empirical studies in Bangladesh, this study tries to fill this gap. - PublicationExploring Destination Brand Identity Of Lenggong Valley World Heritage Site From The Perspective Of Local Community(2022-05)Musa, NorfardilawatiStrong and sustainable destination branding is critical for destinations to remain competitive in the current tourism industry. However, the existence of multiple stakeholders with different interests poses an intricate challenge. In addition to the challenge of identifying the multiple ‘owners’ of the destination, getting their consensus on the identity of the destination also proved to be difficult. Local community, as one of the destination’s key stakeholders and as the host of the destination, plays critical roles in stewarding tourism development and in providing rewarding experience to tourists. Therefore, their conceptualisation of the destination brand identity dimensions is critical in shaping tourism development in ways that will exude the values of the community and their heritage. This study proposes a framework to elucidate the Lenggong Valley World Heritage Site (LVWHS) dimensions of brand identity from the perspective of the local community. Adopting the qualitative method, the data collection was conducted in two phases – (i) in-depth interviews in exploring the identity dimension of destination from the micro perspective; and (ii) focus group discussion (FGD) in explaining the macro perspective, particularly in how the residents as members of a community arrive at a consensus on the brand identity of a destination. The participants of this research were purposively selected, consisting of the headmen and representatives of female residents to represent the local community’s perspectives.

- PublicationModeling Political Participation Through Social Media Communication Effects: The Role Of Partisanship Among Young Voters In Pakistan(2022-07)Rehan, TariqPolitical participation has always been considered a decisive component of politics that is essential for the strength of the political system in a democratic country. While research has established the positive impact of social media use on political participation and identified a rise in social media use in Pakistan, the problem of political disengagement among young voters raised severe concerns for the democratic system of the country. To address this problem, this study described social media communication’s effects for modelling political participation of young voters in Pakistan. The suggested model of this study, which is based on the O-S-R-O-R (Orientation-Stimuli-Orientation-Response) model of communication mediation, elucidates that the pathway from social media use to political participation is not simple but complex with specific mediating and moderating paths. Focusing on partisanship in the cultural context of Pakistan, this study applies Social Identity Theory (SIT) to explain the role of partisanship as a psychological disposition. A combination of SIT and O-S-R-O-R assisted in explaining different mediating and moderating paths. A survey was conducted to test the model on young voters (N= 410) in Pakistan aged between 18 to 29 years. A snowball sampling technique was used to select the study sample. The study findings advanced the communication mediation model as moderated mediation model of social media communication effects. The findings have policy implications for political institutions, political parties, and media organizations in Pakistan.
- PublicationModelling The Factors That Predict Fake News Sharing Behaviour Among Social Media Users In Nigeria: The Moderating Role Of Fake News Awareness(2022-05)Destiny, Apuke ObeririDespite the growing scholarship on fake news on social media, there have been limited studies that have focused on understanding fake news sharing behaviour, especially in developing countries. To fill this gap, this study attempts to realise why people share fake news and how to prevent its spread via public awareness in the Nigerian context. Thus, the study developed a comprehensive model that encompassed various possible factors to explain why Nigerians tend to share fake news online. The study identified several factors that were derived from earlier investigations on news sharing and relevant theories to include user (individual) motivational factors (uses and gratifications theory) online environmental factor (social capital theory) medium factor (uses and gratifications theory); and content/message factor (diffusion of innovation theory), to develop a comprehensive predictive model of fake news sharing. The study further extended to test the role of fake news awareness (moderating variable) in reducing fake news dissemination as well as used news sharing behaviour construct as a mediating variable between individual motivational factor, online environmental factor medium factor, content/message factor and fake news sharing behaviour. Thus, the study is divided into five-fold statistical testing, which is the test of direct effects, mediating effects, and moderations. Using snowball sampling, the study recruited a total of 664 social media users across Nigerian geopolitical zones. The data was obtained from the respondents via an online survey (survey monkey) and later analysed using PLS path modelling.

- PublicationPolitical Internet Memes In Indonesia: A Case Study Of The 2019 Indonesian Presidential Election(2022-11)Mahadian, Adi BayuInternet meme has become a relatively new language of political expression in Indonesia. However, the Indonesian government considers internet memes a threat, and some citizen has been arrested for an accusation of insulting the president with the internet memes and escalating polarization in the society. The polarization made the 2019 Indonesian presidential election the most intense in the Reformation era. Using the political internet meme in the political discourse toward the Presidential Election becomes rough and harsh. This research examined how Indonesian society used internet memes to discuss political issues toward the 2019 Presidential Election. This study investigated the discourse and how it is discussed in the political discourse in the context of contemporary political humour toward the 2019 Presidential Election. Using the 'Meme Pilpres 2019' keywords on Google's search engine, the research collected 583 internet memes. Then, the researcher selected the internet meme based on specific criteria: it contains images, text, or any other element representing both presidential candidates, and it contains humour with more than a single associative context. The data resulted in 126 internet memes being categorized into themes. Three main themes of discourses were obtained: religion, political ideology, and national leader's characteristics. The research discovered three findings according to the depth analysis of the internet memes on each theme. First, taboo and the prohibited issue (such as an Islamic discourse) were articulated as the story background of the humourous internet memes. Then, the story background could be articulated with another associative context to build a humourous internet meme.

The purpose of this research is (1) to explain the public perception of Indonesian police reputation during the 2019 presidential election, (2) to describe the public assessment on the reputation management elements carried out by the Indonesian police during the 2019 Presidential Election, and (3) to determine how the reputation management accomplished by the INP during the election. This research was done by combining qualitative method through internal interview data collection techniques as the primary data and supported quantitatively with survey techniques as secondary data. This research confirms that the excellence theory cannot be appropriately implemented due to the police forces' unique corporate characters. However, the survey showed that the Indonesian National Police still had a respectable reputation throughout the 2019 presidential election because a reputation management strategy that focuses on elements of employee behavior is the main factor in determining public satisfaction and public trust.
- PublicationRumour Response Strategy And Behavioural Intention: The Mediating Roles Of Anxiety And Government Reputation During Covid-19 “Infodemic” In China(2023-07)Chen, GuangyuThe rising popularity of social media has inevitably led to the dissemination of both factual and truthful information as well as rumours. Specifically, numerous health rumours have circulated on digital platforms following the global COVID-19 pandemic. Relevant government bodies must proactively convey public information to influence individuals’ behaviour and subsequent involvement in emergency decision-making during a major health crisis. As such, the right rumour response strategy must be used by the government to avoid negative reaction from the public amidst a major health crisis. This study was based on three key objectives: (i) to identify the most effective government rumour response strategies to address rumours during a health crisis; (ii) to examine the role of anxiety in this process; (iii) to examine the role of government reputation in the process. The Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) served as the theoretical foundation of the study. Online survey experimental data were collected from 245 Chinese participants, who were exposed to a false social media rumour stimulus that potato chips could spread Covid-19. Notably, the participants were subjected to one of the three following rumour response strategy: denial, refute, and attack. The one-way ANOVA results revealed that the impact of the refutation response led to the lowest rumour dissemination intention. The refutation response also led to the lowest behavioural intention to consume rumour-related products.

- PublicationThe Usage Of Google Apps As Communication Tools A Case Study Of Senior High Schools In Jakarta(2022-05)Deddy, MuharmanTechnological developments in education are growing day by day. One of the advances is the use of applications in learning, where Google introduced a platform called Google for Education (GFE). However, in Indonesia, the use and adoption of these applications, notably Google for Education, is not smooth and evenly distributed. Apart from technical factors, non-technical factors such as teacher motivation and knowledge are the obstacles. This study tries to dig into these problems in three different high schools by using Yin’s single-embedded type case study analysis to investigate and explain three schools selected, and then try to compare the results to understand the difference. From the research results, it can be concluded that GFE use in certain subjects encountered technical difficulties due to compatibility with the applications previously used. And Google Classroom, as the mainly used Applications, became a mainstay application because it made students independent in learning without the need for a standby teacher. From three schools selected, SMA X is a school that is quite maximum in using and adopting GFE. The habit of using iPad as a learning medium and complete mastery of technology from its teachers are the reasons. Finally, theoretically it can be seen how to get maximum use and adoption, external issues remain an important apprehension
