- PublicationA Study Of Saudi Arabia’S Social Commentary Based On Photography Artworks(2022-09)Abdullah, Alromih RobaPhotographers have their artistic creativity to express relevant social comments about the global social trend. In this respect, the current Saudi photographers have no exception. Compared to other developed countries, photography in Saudi Arabia has attracted little scientific and international attention. Therefore, this study seeks to unify communication by exploring the depiction of social commentary by Saudi photographers as they move to change the society. This study would determine the general perception of photographs produced by Saudi photographers. The artworks of Saudi artists from various art galleries in Saudi Arabia would be collected and analyzed by interviewing and distributing questionnaires to the public. This study utilized qualitative and quantitive methods to explore, interpret and analyze images. Feedback from the audience would be analyzed by NVivo and SPSS in order to identify recurring and emerging topics that the audience understands through social commentary images. Furthermore, this study would provide the communicative context for portraying social comments by Saudi photographers as an insight into the ideas, practices and attitudes of Saudi artists.

- PublicationA Study On The Effect Of Attractiveness, Pragmatic, And Hedonic Quality On The User Experience Of A Dark Mode Mobile Reading Application On Young User In China(2024-09)Yang, AiyiThe concept of dark mode originated in the early development stages of computer displays. With the advancement of screen technology and the proliferation of mobile devices, dark mode regained attention in the early 21st century. Notably, in 2019, iOS 13 and Android 10 introduced system-wide dark modes, making this feature prevalent on mainstream mobile devices. Although dark mode has become widely adopted commercially, academic research on dark mode, particularly regarding user experience, remains limited. This study investigates the dimensions of Attractiveness, Pragmatic Quality, and Hedonic Quality in the dark mode user experience of mobile reading applications among young users in China. Using a mixed research methodology, data were collected based on a systematic framework and the UEQ theory. A quantitative questionnaire survey measured the user experience across three UEQ categories (six attributes), and qualitative interviews were used for triangulation of the results. Findings indicate that Attractiveness received the highest feedback, Hedonic Quality the lowest, and Pragmatic Quality results were moderately high. Notably, there were subjective differences between the questionnaire and interview results for Hedonic Quality. This study provides valuable insights for designers and developers to improve dark mode user experiences, offering reference data and suggestions to enhance design effectiveness. It fills a research gap regarding young users' experiences with mobile reading applications in dark mode and serves as a reference for future research.

The research methodology employs a multifaceted approach encompassing the identification of traditional Rebab Melayu characteristics, the implementation of 3D printing technology for crafting a contemporary instrument, empirical testing through video documentation of the manufacturing process and instrument performance, and a thorough analysis of audience responses during a contemporary music performance.
- PublicationBotany And Metaphor(2021-09)Ahmed Fauzi, TetrianaI started the doctorate program with works depicting fictional plants as a mirror or metaphor for my thoughts and feelings. The plants in the watercolour works on paper are impossible biologically and in terms of the environments in which I place them. In connection with these artworks I looked at the work of Charles Avery and Marcel Boodthaers, who both put their artwork in a fictional frame of an invented island and an imaginary museum using different methods and media. Charles Avery exhibits drawings, sculpture and text to realize his imaginary island, while Broodthaers uses readymade objects to create his fictional museum. I wanted the plants I make to have the quality that, although they are fiction, they can possibly exist in the mind of the viewer.
- PublicationCharacteristics And Influences Of Mughal Islamic Ornamentation Of The 17th Century: A Case Study Of Wazir Khan And Badshahi Mosque(2023-09)Zahra, FatimaIslamic ornaments of the Mughal era (17th century) face a significant recognition gap in the academic visual literature of South Asia, especially Pakistan. It is well established that the representation of Mughal Islamic architecture and ornaments are more effective than the architectural structures of the Mughal era, like courts, gardens, seals, tombs, etc. This study aims to identify the distinguishing characteristics of Mughal Islamic Ornaments. It specifically explored the influences of the 17th-century Western and Eastern art forms on the ornamentation of the Wazir Khan and Badshahi Mosques built by Mughal emperors. The two mosques are not only significant for the study just because they were constructed during the Mughal period under Shahjahan and Aurangzeb emperors, who are famous for their architectural interests, but also because they are on the UNESCO world heritage tentative List from 1993. This significance subsequently broadens the context of Mughal Islamic Ornamentation. Formalism (OPTIC strategy of visual analysis) and hermeneutic approach will be fused in this qualitative research to analyse and interpret the Mughal Islamic Ornaments of the two mosques. The study identified the characteristics, explored the influences, and analysed the ornaments of two mosques. Findings have shown that Mughal Islamic Ornaments are aesthetic and conceptual historically rooted visuals that are not Islamic except calligraphy. However, when painted and crafted on religious buildings or in religious environment i.e., mosques, they symbolize/represent a divine philosophy that stimulates the Greatness of God and religious teachings. Last but not least, this research offers a proposal for further research and studies pertinent to the study's area.
- PublicationColour As Branding And Value Creation On The Small Medium Enterprise (Sme) Food Souvenir Packaging In Bandung, Indonesia(2023-09)Swasty, WiraniaThe food packaging design has improved significantly, allowing for more diverse colours. This study makes contributions to design literature by creating and communicating values to consumers by utilising colour on Packaging.
- PublicationConsumers’ Perceived Risk And Perceived Benefit On Attitude And Intention To Re-Purchase From Food Truck Operators(2022-07)Loh, ZeyenABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate consumers’ re-purchase intention towards food truck products based on their perceived risks and perceived benefits within the context of Malaysia. The food truck industry has been expanding recently as consumers have begun to explore alternatives for convenient food that is not only cheaper in value but also enables them to experience fun and pleasurable emotions, such as when purchasing food from a food truck. However, it is noted that there are several risks and concerns related to this industry, notably in terms of food safety and environmental risks. Considering that there are not many studies on this topic, particularly in Asian countries, this research aimed to look into this matter based on risk and benefit perceptions. This study adapted the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), where perceived risks (food safety risk and environmental risk) and perceived benefits (price value, convenience value, hedonic value) were introduced as independent variables. This study also investigated the mediating effect of consumer attitude on the relationship between perceived risks and benefits and re-purchase intention. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram on respondents with prior experience in the purchase of food truck products. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) using the SmartPLS software was employed to analyse the data.

- PublicationDigital Branding Adaptation For Indonesian Small Medium Enterprises Expansion Into Global Market(2023-08)Siswanto, Riky AzharyandiThe function of branding in enhancing the competitiveness of Small Medium Enterprises in Indonesia continues to be a particular goal for numerous stakeholders. These efforts constantly encounter obstacles for providing direct branding services to SMEs since there is no aid available in the market. Meanwhile, the phenomenon of the digital world's development has an impact on how brands are established. While digital marketing continues to become an affordable approach for marketing, digital branding continues to increase in cost. On the other side, there are thousands of unemployed recent grads and graphic design students for providing direct branding services to SMEs. Between SMEs and inexperienced designers, there is enormous untapped potential. This is because the disparity between the financial capacities of SMEs and graphic designers discourages graphic artists from providing their services to SMEs. To meet the objectives of both parties, a system is required that streamlines the branding process, reduces branding costs, and improves the resulting branding's quality, demonstrating that this may either boon or a bane for SMEs seeking to increase their competitiveness through digital branding. A new ecosystem model is required that enables access to digital branding SME business owners that are capable of advancing their goals.
- PublicationDysfunction In Isolation: Metaphor Of Personal Urbanisation Experience Through Painting(2024-07)Zhang, FanThis research highlights the dysfunction in isolation as a metaphor in the creation of paintings. A general review of existing artists currently portrays space and objects in the language of painting in their creations. However, their works are more about expressing personal emotions rather than social issues related to isolation. On the other hand, the current painting does not express isolation from the perspective of dysfunction. To establish a theoretical foundation for expressing isolation as a social issue in creative work, analyse the pertinent literature on art and society. Social and emotional problems are gaining ground as urban society and technology advance. The metropolitan population now frequently experiences psychological issues related to isolation. There are several opportunities for studio-based research to add to the corpus of knowledge about creative processes. In this study, I adapt a model of the creative based on the Aesthetico-Action Research model. The primary method for creating a model to produce a sequence of paintings includes observation, reflection, planning, creation, and interpretation. Phase one created a ‘newspaper guy’ and copied it into different works. The ‘newspaper guy’ as a symbol reflects the current state of the urban population. It expresses dysfunction in isolation by representing the connection between the figure and the space. The second phase shows typical urban objects. The absence, overt dysfunction, and excessive approaches are all examples of how the metropolitan populace expresses materialism.
- PublicationExploration, Creation And Evaluation Of Plant Image In Ceramic Artworks In Jingdezhen City, China(2024-09)Sun, XiaoliContemporary PICA combines ceramic media with a long history, plant motifs, and modern innovative thinking. Significant changes have taken place compared with the past. However, regarding theory, the research on plant motif, cultural meaning, creation technique, and application form is insufficient in China. - PublicationFormulation Of Visual Narrative Reading And Coding Approach Through Cultural Waterfront Portraiture Photographs Analysis(2022-12)Musa, Eddy IzuwanPresent Visual Narratology almost exclusively encompass images in motion or sequential images despite some dialectics arguing the possibility of extending to single, still frame images. Inversely, present Visual Semiotics encompassing singular, still frame images share a proclivity for culturally-informed interpretations but do not constitute a Narratological perspective. Alongside these issues, the narrative-ability of single still frame images are also being contested. To address these gaps and inconsistencies, the study examines the possibility of a systematic narrativization from the reading of single, still-frame images. It performs its premise by formulating a systematic Visual Narrative Reading and Coding Approach constituting a simultaneous theoretical appropriation of Visual Narratology and Visual Semiotics deployed through a Qualitative Method Design with Visual Coding. Through this systematic approach, any projected narrative rhetoric output would be comprehensive and ethnographically informed of its key Protagonist’s World circumstances while simultaneously be grounded by evidential data deduced from the image’s visual signifiers. - PublicationIconographical Interpretations Of Modern Elements In Northern Bali Temple Reliefs During Dutch Colonial Period, 1900-1940(2023-09)Putra, I Dewa Alit DwijaRelief art on temple buildings in Bali generally uses ornaments from classical Balinese Hindu cultural heritage. Traditional or classical art resulted from a blend of Javanese and Balinese Hindu culture during the Majapahit era. Since the arrival of Dutch colonialism in North Bali in 1849, it had had numerous influences and caused changes in all aspects of Balinese life. Likewise, in traditional arts, especially relief art. The shift from conventional relief art to modern art can be seen in several temple buildings in North Bali, such as Beji Sangsit Temple, Madue Karang Temple, Dalem Jagaraga Temple, and Lan Puseh Village Temple. The embodiment of reliefs shows images that differ from traditional art conventions such as theme, composition, and style. Like other works of art, reliefs are made with a specific purpose and message. This study provides a more in-depth analysis of relief art by using the iconography and iconology theory of Erwin Panofsky as a method for analysing reliefs in the context of the socio-cultural history of the Balinese people. Through three stages of Panofsky's iconographic analysis, it can be observed that the relief works were created as part of the Dutch political strategy to shape the image of Bali as an "exotic" and "cultured" area and as a world tourist destination, in addition to divert the memory of the shame caused by the war the Dutch had against the Balinese people.
- PublicationImproving User Interface Accessibility For Chinese Elderly Tourism Through Service Design In Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, China(2023-08)Chang, RunyiThe aging process in China has been accelerating. Since 2020, China has moved from a deeply aging society to a super-aging society. The growing base of population aging inevitably brings about the aging of consumer groups in the market. Especially when elderly people are in tourism, they have more available time, lower financial pressures, and considerable purchasing power, so elderly tourism is becoming an integral segment of the tourism industry. Although extensive literature has discussed elderly tourism in China as a separate sector, it has not been able to change the situation of low accessibility. Until now, there has been insufficient research to identify the needs, behaviors, and expectations of elderly people in tourism. As a result, the traveling experience of Chinese elderly people is unsatisfactory since the tourism industry cannot accurately match the demands of the elderly in terms of products, services, and travel processes. In this study, the author applied service design as an interdisciplinary approach to improving accessibility to elderly tourism. Using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including Pearson correlation, multiple linear regression, and interview verification. The author explored a range of factors that influence traveling experience of elderly people throughout journeys.
