- PublicationA Study On The Design And Use Of Performance Management System In China’s Innovative Start-ups(2023-08)Hung, Wai Chung ClarenceChina’s start-ups market has grown rapidly since the Chinese Government encouraged new ventures and announced the “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” initiative in 2015. Nevertheless, start-ups’ failure rate can be as high as 95%, partly due to the lack of Performance Management Systems (PMSs) in managing and controlling organisations. PMSs are designed based on Western, well-established organisations. Existing research relating to PMSs in China, concerning their design and use in innovative start-ups, is scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the types of PMSs adopted in China’s innovative start-ups, and how the systems are designed and used under the influence of Chinese culture and start-up managers’ personality traits. This study adopted a qualitative case study approach for four selected start-up companies, with data collected through the use of semi-structured interviews, field observations and document reviews to examine their management control behaviours. One of the four case companies was purposely selected as a contrasting case for identifying the similarities and differences among case ownermanagers in order to uncover the underlying influence of their behaviours. The GLOBE theory, the Traits Theory of Personality, and the Theory of Circumscription and Compromise were used to underpin the findings and discussions. The findings revealed that the Chinese owner-managers used simplified and informal PMSs, through personnel and social controls, in their organisations

- PublicationAn Antecedent-Outcome Model Of Responsible Innovation: A Resource-Based Perspective(2023-07)Rasheed, Memon KhalidFirms are not built in an isolated world, nor can they survive without societal acceptance. Firms are responsible for their actions and innovations, even if those innovations are meant to be "social innovations." Increased awareness of economic and non-economic stakeholders has forced firms to seek social and ethical acceptability to be considered socially and cognitively desirable. It’s no longer about gaining profits only. Firms now need to address the rising concerns regarding upcoming technological innovations, especially artificially intelligent machines. Such technological innovations have serious impacts on human autonomy, fairness, justice, and agency. Collective and responsible stewardship based on some values and principles, through public engagement and informed discourse, may resolve such issues. The research proposes "responsible innovation" (RI) as the solution to all these problems. RI is a novel approach for managing technological innovations that makes the firm ethically, morally, and socially responsible, environmentally friendly, and humanitarian in addition to being business-oriented.

- PublicationDetermining Factors Influencing The E-Waste Separation Intention Among Mobile Phone Repairers In Bangladesh(2023-03)Rahman, AshikurThere is an enormous growth in mobile phone consumption worldwide which leads to generation of a large volume of e-waste every year. In Bangladesh, mobile phones are constantly repaired by replacing old batteries, screens, and accessories, which ultimately causes massive e-waste generation. Insufficient knowledge of e-waste separation causes individuals to dispose of e-waste with other waste, which cannot be used in the recycling process. To study the intention of e-waste separation, it is essential to disclose the influencing factors. Therefore, current study integrates the value belief norm (VBN) model, self-determination theory (SDT) and institutional theory (IT) to predict mobile phone repairers’ e-waste separation intention. Survey research design was employed whereas data includes valid 200 respondents (repairers), collected through survey questionnaire (printed), by employing purposive sampling. PLS-SEM was applied on the collected data for hypotheses testing. The integrated model explained 73.5% of the variance of e-waste separation intention. This result indicates the importance of integrating models to enhance its explanatory power in predicting behavioural intention. The finding of this study indicates that, altruistic values, openness to change values, environmental beliefs, personal norms, amotivation, external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation,

- PublicationEffect Of The Bagging Configuration On The Properties Of Vacuum-Bagging-Only (Vbo) - Oven Cured In Complex-Shaped Composites(2014-06)Hassan, Muhmimad HafizWith the growing needs of the aerospace industry to produce larger composite components at reduced costs, Out-of-Autoclave (OOA) manufacturing technology is perhaps the answer for the problem. However, the development work of the OOA process using prepreg materials to achieve minimum void content without high external pressure from the autoclave proved to be a major challenge. The research study focused specifically on the vacuum bagging process. In the initial study, eight bagging configurations which consist of three main processing parameters, including the use of release film (PTFE) , edge breather and the intensifier were proposed to improve the quality of the L-shaped laminate composites. The specimens were assessed based on degree of uniformity (DOU) and void contents levels. The results were subsequently evaluated using the analysis of variance (ANOYA) to determine the percentage of influence of the processing parameters to the quality improvement. The experimental results indicated that the use of PTFE has contributed 37.45% to the significant void formation at the corner section. In contrast, the edge breather (YBO) and intensifier successfully reduced the void content level by 19.64% and 29.41 %, respectively.
